My Favorite Boys!

I took this picture before Joe left for work this morning. Today is my day off and Izaak and I are set to meet up with our friends Lori and Emily for lunch!

Status Update (Freshly Edited!)

This will be explained at the end of the post...
I really am terrible about keeping up with this blog... anyhow, Izaak is taking a nap on me right now so figured it would be a good time for a quick post! Our little guy is getting huge, by the way, and already weighs over fifteen pounds. Hard to believe that he's over three months old now.

Unfortunately, he's been having some tummy troubles. This causes me to sometimes sleep on the couch at night with him in his bouncer chair on the floor next to me so that I'm able to comfort him quickly when he wakes up whimpering - and I don't have to stumble across the house to his room to do so. It's agonizing to not know what to do to fix whatever is bothering him. We just switched his formula to a sensitive type and I think its helping at least. And we're using the generic version so its saving a bit of money too. (I googled his fussiness and somebody mentioned that a particular store-brand worked well for their gassy baby). Other than that, hes a pretty happy boy and flashes lots of gummy grins and little shrieks of amusement!

"Izee" has outgrown most all of his 0-3 mos clothing and we've firmly moved on to his 3-6 month wardrobe. Besides being a bit round, he's getting tall too and has long tootsies... he's grown out of more socks than he's had time to wear. Granted, he doesn't seem to enjoy wearing socks or shoes at this point, but neither does his mother - so go figure!

Sadly, I've slowed down on the rate of picture-taking, though I do try to get new shots at least on the days I'm home with him and on the weekends. I'm still working part-time but it sounds like those days are numbered especially since I'm taking on more roles at work. It'll be nice to have bigger paychecks again but I'm sure that it won't outweigh the value of time spent with the kiddo. Crossing my fingers that I'll be able to do at least one weekday at home still!

The map at the top of the post is of the journey that I took Izaak on in his stroller not too long ago. Usually, we go for walks in the loop towards the upper right of the map (our neighborhood). And usually, wearing flip-flops is not a big deal. This time however, I decided to get a little adventurous and wander a bit. I knew that a particular road looped around eventually and ends up on the main road but I didn't realize how much longer it takes on foot than it does in a car!! I had developed blisters on the tops of my feet and between my toes about a third of the way in. I decided walking barefoot would feel better by the time the blisters had begun to bleed. By the time we got home, I also realized that walking on pavement for an extended period of time wears off a considerable amount of skin from your feet bottoms and concluded that I should've brought a bottle of water with me even though it was only in the lower 80s that day. One more piece of wisdom I picked up: make sure your cell phone is charged! I could've used the GPS on my phone to determine a quicker way home!!

12 Weeks Old!

Izaak is getting some love from his cousin, Aydan!
We’ve received some really cute things in the mail lately; thanks to all you caring, thoughtful souls - Izaak (and his parents) are very appreciative! Denslow, Eller(s), Feath, Lauterbaugh(s), Markham, McGuiness, Niedzwecki(s), Waters': thank you, thank you, thank you!! We’ve also been enjoying the cards that have been sent for Izaak’s arrival. We’re saving them for Izaak to read when he’s a bit older and his drool is significantly less abundant.

I may have mentioned it before (and it probably goes without saying) but we are absolutely enamored with our little dude! As much time and energy that he takes up, I still couldn’t imagine life without him and can’t even remember what it was like before he was here!! It is so cool to see him grow and learn new things. He hasn’t mastered the piano or mixed martial arts or anything but it seems like there’s something new every day. He used to stick his head forward kinda funny when we burped him for the first month or so and he doesn’t do it anymore. Joe and I called it “turtling” because he sort of resembled a turtle stretching his neck out of his shell.  I’m sad I didn’t get a picture of him doing that because it looked so silly yet endearing at the same time and now his neck muscles work a bit better, thus a lack of turtling.

Izaak is still growing like a weed! We haven’t weighed him lately but he seems to be getting longer, if nothing else. At some point over the weekend, I put him in a pair of pants that had been a little long on him and suddenly they are right around Capri length. His giggles are totally contagious. Out of the blue, he belts out the most delicious laughter and you’d be hard-pressed not to follow with at least a smile of your own. He interacts with his toys more and his legs are getting pretty strong. He seems to enjoy “standing” and doing baby crunches. Peek-a-boo/Where’s-the-baby? is also a favorite. He’s cute even when he’s fussy. Even at 4am (though admittedly, his cuteness factor may be a bit lower at that time). He was being a bit fussy yesterday until I put Toy Story on the big moving picture box (a.k.a. The TV) and he was instantly glued to the screen. Apparently we’re raising a couch potato already?! No worries, we won’t let him sit inside playing video games, drinking Mt Dew and eating Doritos all of the time!!

As is common with many babies, Izaak has a bit of a flat spot on the back of his head. So we ordered a special pillow (a “Noggin Nest”) for his little lop-sided head, in hopes that it won’t worsen and require him to need a helmet to round it out later on. The doctor wasn’t concerned at our last visit but being new parents, we suffer a bit of “is this normal?!” paranoia. We are constantly referencing Google to make sure everything is progressing correctly… “he’s drooling! Is he teething already?”, “How much formula should he need?”, “How many naps should he take?”, “How much sleep should he be getting?”, etc. The answers are usually quite varied but it’s comforting to know that we’re not the only ones with so many questions.

We scored Izaak’s “big boy” carseat on sale recently. It’s the one we selected before we even picked out his infant carseat. He won’t need it for a little while yet, so it’s still in the box taking up a lot of space in his room but I was pretty psyched about saving $60 on it!! Not having to settle on something lesser-because-it’s-cheaper is a glorious thing! I was also able to exchange a couple boxes of diapers for a larger size during the same trip to Target too. I had been trying to be efficient by stocking up on diapers while they were on sale but the kiddo grew so fast that we ended up not needing as many size 2 diapers as originally thought. I also had to buy him a bib that resembles a cute Frankenstein head, it really couldn’t be passed up!

I'm also in the market for a new computer. I've been a Mac user for years though I use PCs at work. Honestly, I'm really not too thrilled with either. My iMac died a horrible death so I replaced it with a Mac mini, which I feel is a lazy machine. It's not my fault that I need to use a dozen or so applications at the same time!! Anyhow, I need something beefier than what I have so I can get my freelance work done more efficiently.

Just One Pic...

zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
Sorry. I've been swamped! I do have lots of newer pictures... hiding out in my phone and camera! I will get some more posted soon, including pictures from Labor Day weekend which include pictures of some face-time with his cousins and snuggle time with Nana and Papa!!

In the meanwhile, here's a photo of Izaak after one of our morning walks. Apparently, stroller-lounging is exhausting!! Whew, we can hardly contain our excitement ;)

And are you enjoying his chubby cheeks as much as I am?!
